Licking releases endorphins in the brain which in turn acts to calm and soothe even the wildest of pups (a fact regularly proven with my own Vizsla).
The options for what to put on mats are endless but my personal favourites are Paté, Natural Yoghurt , Cream Cheese, mashed Banana and Peanut Butter, with the banana and yoghurt I tend to freeze them for an hour before giving so they last longer.
